  • Project Description: Relevant Points

    The objective of this project is to train qualified Human Resources for the Defense and Space sectors and contribute to the development of knowledge and national products for conducting in-flight tests of an aerospace vehicle that uses an aspirated hypersonic propulsion system based on supersonic combustion. This objective can be subdivided into the following specific objectives:

    OE 1) Develop in-house computer programs for aerothermodynamic, structural, flight dynamics and hypersonic vehicle stability research;

    OE 2) Investigate advanced materials for fuel storage, structure and thermal protection of hypersonic vehicles, for prolonged hypersonic flight;

    OE 3) Perform computer simulations of hypersonic vehicles in different flight regimes: aerothermodynamics, aeroelasticity, thermal and structural effects;

    OE 4) Characterize the flight dynamics and stability of hypersonic vehicles, and

    OE 5) Increase the ground testing infrastructure.

    At the national level, this project is in line with the National Institute of Hypersonic Airbreathing Propulsion - Rede de Pesquisa PRO-HYPER, which aims, among its objectives, to share the knowledge and technological development of hypersonic propulsion (scramjets), generated in military Research Institutes, with universities and the private sector, increasing their participation in matters of defense interest. In addition, it contributes directly to the formation of qualified Human Resources for the space sector, particularly in hypersonics, materials, and software.
